The Kohala Center

The Kohala Center (TKC) is a non-profit organization based in Waimea on Hawaii Island. The Rural and Cooperative Business Development Services staff at TKC provides technical assistance in business development to farmers, ranchers, food enterprises, and rural cooperatives statewide. We specialize in cooperative development, financial capacity building, and new farmer education and training. TKC also offers microloans to eligible rural businesses located on Hawaii Island and Molokai.

Pesticide Action Network works to create a just, thriving food system. PAN works with those on the frontlines of industrial agriculture ? farmers, farmworkers and rural communities ? To tackle the pesticide problem and reclaim the future of food and farming.  PAN North America is one of five regional centers worldwide. We link local and international consumer, labor, health, environment and agriculture groups into an international citizens? action network. Together, we challenge the global proliferation of pesticides, defend basic rights to health and environmental quality, and work to ensure the transition to a just and viable food system.

Western Center for Agricultural Health and Safety (WCAHS)

“WCAHS is a multidisciplinary center located at the University of California, Davis. One of 11 agricultural health and safety centers in the U.S established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), WCAHS has an almost 30-year history of engaging agricultural communities in the Western states of Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada through innovative research and outreach.

WCAHS faculty and staff conduct research on high hazard topics, including air quality, ergonomics, dairy pathogens, and heat illness. Through its robust outreach program, WCAHS reaches over 3,000 individuals annually with health and safety trainings, health fairs, and presentations.”

CTAHR Cooperative Extension Service

Most of the extension agents and many of the specialists are University of Hawai’i faculty members who work from off-campus extension offices. County agents are available for individual consultations and can provide educational workshops and short-courses covering topics in agriculture, home economics, family living, 4-H and other youth activities, nutrition, and health. Educational materials such as brochures, publications, and videos are also available at county extension offices for use by the general public. Services provided by county agents are generally free of charge, but workshops and other organized activities may have a nominal fee.
