Mad Agriculture

Our work begins with farm planning. We dream big about what the land wants to be and how to implement regenerative principles and practices. Putting ideals into action is hard to do. We use a combination of community support, capital and markets to activate regenerative agriculture on the land. Our work learns from and contributes to an emerging and diverse community of funders, practitioners and purchasers. We focus on the Midwest and High Plains of the United States. Pesticide Action Network works to create a just, thriving food system. PAN works with those on the frontlines of industrial agriculture ? farmers, farmworkers and rural communities ? To tackle the pesticide problem and reclaim the future of food and farming.  PAN North America is one of five regional centers worldwide. We link local and international consumer, labor, health, environment and agriculture groups into an international citizens? action network. Together, we challenge the global proliferation of pesticides, defend basic rights to health and environmental quality, and work to ensure the transition to a just and viable food system.

Iowa State University Extension Farm and Ranch Well-being

“The overarching goals of the project titled, Farm and Ranch Wellness: The Next Steps, are to (1) develop a catalog of resources, trainings and connections to help farmers and ranchers know where to turn and, (2) to provide a fuller and more robust network of stress assistance programs, including a stress hotline and prescription drug abuse education, in the North Central Region. Individuals who are directly engaged in farming and ranching can lower their stress by attending programs such as “Stress on the Farm: Strategies that Help” or financial management programs for farm and ranch women.”

Farm Credit Services of America, based in Omaha, Nebraska, is dedicated to serving the agricultural credit, risk management and financial needs of farmers and ranchers in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming. It is part of the Farm Credit System, a nationwide agricultural network providing credit and affiliated services to farm and ranch operators across the United States. Overall, the Farm Credit System supplies the nation’s agricultural industry with nearly one-third of its credit needs.

Niche Meat Processor Assistance Network

The Niche Meat Processor Assistance Network is a national network of experts that assist on-the-ground efforts and each other in order to improve processing infrastructure and increase capacity for niche meats. The network provides assistance with technical problems, business planning, labor, communications, and food safety/regulatory expertise. Arion Thiboumery at Iowa State and Lauren Gwin at Oregon State are both primary contacts for the Network.

Farm Rescue

We are a one-of-a-kind nonprofit organization that plants and harvests crops free of charge for family farmers who have suffered a major injury, illness or natural disaster. Farm Rescue provides assistance to farm families in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and eastern Montana. Farm Rescue has assisted nearly 400 farm families in crisis since 2006.
